We would like to wish you a prosperous and healthy new year.
We are certainly enjoying our house and I often think of the very positive role you played and feel fortunate that we used you as a designer and major resource for our house design and development.
l have tried to capture some of my thoughts regarding our interactions below:
First off, I think we feel that we did not just want a house but a home. While this effort started with trying to remodel and expand the existing structure it was a necessary step to better define our requirements. Out of these activities your role in helping us define our design parameters was of the utmost importance. As we progressed through the initial portion of the design “evolution” we realized that for economic and for house functionality we would be better suited to demolish and create
a whole new structure. This was a major breakthrough in the design process.
Moving on from the point of settling on a Georgian design gave us the direction we needed. The Georgian style would fit our neighborhood. But most of all it gave us the design layout that achieved our day to day needs.
Your design help was truly magnificent, You not only laid out options for our initial concepts but provided us alternate options. Your command of the CAD system was truly tops and you constantly demonstrated your power—user abilities. Your use of the “go to meeting” tool was most beneficial in visualizing the changes you were making “on the fly”.
Ken, your knowledge and research into Georgian design gave us a beautifully designed home.
While we find the whole house extremely beautiful and functional an area that we have had many comments on is the breezeway / patio area. Our guests love that area as well as the front entrance foyer / great room / kitchen / mud room area. The view thru the foyer / great room and patio fireplace area has been a knock out.
Your thoroughness and focus on the structural strength issues of the house are evident in the solidness of the final structure. I really appreciate your notes on the drawing about updates on changes that a builder might want to implement. Your interactions with the builder, county inspectors, and other third parties were always done in a positive and professional manner.
After over five months in the house, I appreciate so many things about the design. The compliments from the many guests we have entertained are so fulfilling. It was a great experience working with you on home and are fortunate to have had you as our designer.

I still remember you putting our goto meeting online on your large tv making it easy to see for the both of you and the comments from your neighbors that the picture on our job sign looks just like the house.

Addition in Surry Virginia

Working with Ken – The Design Guy – was wonderful. We had met with a different designer who had been very discouraging about the addition/renovation that we wanted to make to our home. As soon as we started talking with Ken, he understood exactly what we were looking for. We wanted an addition that did not look like an addition. That is exactly what we have now. Everyone who comes to visit comments on how nice it looks and how it just flows and looks like it has always been there. He answered our questions and offered options that we had not even thought about. Our contractor was wonderful and he and Ken worked great together. The plans were “right on” and there were no issues obtaining the permits and inspections. I would highly recommend The Design Guy. We had never undertaken a project like this and he certainly made it as stress free as possible.

Chester Virginia handicapped accessible
Four handicapped accessible additions in one home.

Dear Ken,
We have been in our new home for a little over a month now. I have to say that we are loving it. Thank you so very much for your design work in converting the home to our dream home. It was quite a challenge for you. We love the extension of the family room and the added on dining room is perfect for my grandparent’s antique dining room set. My Mom loves her bathroom. It turned out absolutely beautiful. We also widened our son’s bedroom to give him a decent sized room. He finally has a room that he can enjoy rather than the tiny room that was his bedroom in the old house. We are looking forward to the warmer weather so we can really enjoy the added-on screened porch and deck.
I am sending you photos of the finished converted shower that you suggested for my mother. Having it truly handicapped accessible definitely gives me peace of mind should she suffer a fall again. There will be room to help her if she needs it.
Our project was, in fact, four additions to our “new” house the den expansion, new dining room, screened porch, and expanded bedroom. Tying in the different roof lines with the existing roof posed quite a challenge for you. We are very happy with our new home.

Ken was great to work with! It all started with a hand sketch of a floor plan I had drawn up and then after a few design review meetings, Ken had me a working set of plans. My favorite part was the 3D model which I used to refer back to a lot during the construction process. Ken was also always there to answer any questions I had after the construction started.
